Five things you need to do to take your business serious

Are you running a business or its hobby?
When I started running my Social media management agency, it started out as a hobby. I really didn’t see it as something I was going to run as a business so didn’t take into consideration a lot of thing. I remember designing my logo myself and started off with one account.
Five years down the lane, I always get amazed at the number of businesses I have interacted with and helped to grow their social media platforms.

If you are looking at turning your hobby or passion into an excelling business, there are some few important things you need to do in order for people to take your brand serious and recognize your business as a well-functioning entity.
Let’s see how we can leverage these five things to make the best out of our brand and position ourselves as a serious business capable of meeting our customer’s needs.

A serious Business has a Name and Logo

It is important to have a company name and logo for your business as it helps to give your business an identity and distinguish you in your industry amongst competition. These two things also go a long way to communicate professionalism and build trust. Remember to give your business a name that is memorable and will be easy to pronounce even amongst little kids.

A Serious Business needs to be discoverable on Search – Create a Google MyBusiness Profile

Getting on Google My Business as a small business helps you to list your business location to appear on Google Maps. It also helps you to share important information about your business that will help your ideal customer get to you, like your phone number, opening times and even share some pictures.

Listing on Google My Business will make it easy for people to find you online and will also help improve your local SEO.

A serious Brand is in the Books of Local Authorities – Register your Business with the Registrar General Department

Business registration is a very important step in your entrepreneurship journey if you are looking at running a business that you want to run for a long time and expand. There are so many opportunities that comes with registering your business. Registering your business helps you to run it as a legal entity, it also helps you to run a business bank account which when done well could attract some investors. Most importantly most business associations or groups that will help a small business will mostly find out if the business is registered. If you want to learn more about how to register your business in Ghana, check here for more details.

Open a Business Bank account

A business bank account will help you grow your business and provide proof that your business is not a hobby. It will help you keep track of all your expenses and will also help you keep track of all your business financial records.

Build your Personal Brand

One thing I have realized most of us forget to do is building our personal brands and carrying it along with the growth of our businesses. Working on your personal brand whilst building your business brand can help to quickly accelerate your business growth. Some of the ways to build your personal brand as a business owner is to develop yourself in your field of work or business and share your experiences with your audience to grow your brand as an authority in that field.

Which of these have you done for your business? You can list them down and tackle them one by one. If you need any help or assistance on how to get started, send us an email on wemompreneurs@gmail.com

Five Working Tools Every Mompreneur Needs to get to Grow their Business

Motherhood is a wonderful and challenging experience—but so is entrepreneurship. Combine the two, and you’ve got yourself a truly unique (and sometimes exhausting!) endeavor.

There are tons of resources out there to help moms balance their lives as working parents, but what about mompreneurs?

The following five working tools can help you as a mother take the pressure off in 2022 so that you can focus on growing your business.

1. Ecommerce Platforms

The world keeps getting global as a result of technology and this has brought about the introduction of different working tools to aid work operations. You’ve heard of them, and you’re probably using them already, but there’s a reason they’re worth mentioning again: they’re the perfect solution to help you manage your business while keeping your kids at bay. With platforms like Jumia or Plendify, you can set up shop in just a few minutes—and grow it even faster once your store is up and running.

2. Marketing / Advertising Platforms

Tools that help you get your message out there. You can use platforms to get your message out there to your audience, build a community around it and grow it organically. There are many platforms that can help you or you could even create one yourself. Some of the best ones include:

  • Facebook Groups
  • Twitter
  • Instagram
  • Youtube (videos)

If you’re not sure what platform is best for you, I suggest trying multiple ones until one works for you!

3. Software and Mobile Apps

Gone are the days when we used only pen and paper to run our businesses! Today’s entrepreneurs need more advanced working tools than ever before if they want to succeed as a mompreneur (or any kind of entrepreneur).

From invoicing software like Oze or all the way down to simpler apps like Trello or Asana—these tools will make managing everything from inventory management to creating project plans easier than ever before.

4. Automation Tools

Tools for automating repetitive tasks so that Mompreneurs have time for family too! Your time is precious—but it doesn’t mean anything if your business isn’t growing fast enough because you haven’t found ways yet how it could work without having someone else do all those boring things over again instead every single day!

That’s why we’ve created this list specifically aimed towards helping Moms figure out exactly where they should start first by looking at some common areas such as customer service automation solutions , data entry process automation solutions , email marketing technology such as MailChimp—and more!

There are many different tools out there that can help you reach your goals and grow your business. No matter how big or small they might seem, each one has its own set of advantages and disadvantages.

When choosing which ones to use, always keep in mind what works best for you as an individual. Don’t let anyone else tell you which is the “right” answer!

Just remember, it doesn’t matter if these tools make everything easier; what matters most is that they help put a smile on your face every time you look at them. Check out this article on how to start up your dream business as a mompreneur.

GCIC Mompreneur session

GCIC Organizes a session for ‘Mompreneurs’ (Women Business Leaders)

As part of its commitment to support and amplify the voice and agency of women in the business sector, and further build the capacity for women entrepreneurs in the green economy, Ashesi University’s Ghana Climate Innovation Centre (GCIC) has organized a special session for ‘Mompreneurs’ – female business leaders in its business incubator who are combining motherhood and parenting with business leadership.

The session, which was organized on 28th April as part of GCIC’s Women Entrepreneurs Transformation Program (WETP), brought together female business owners, a clinical psychologist, and a parenting coach under the theme of Self Balance: Work + Life.

Recognizing that raising children is a full-time job and being a working mother with your own business is essentially equal to having two full-time jobs, the session sought to equip Mompreneurs in the GCIC business incubator with the knowledge, tools, and skills to effectively care for, respond to, and manage their needs of their children.

Speaking at the session, Ruka Sanusi, the Executive Director of GCIC, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to designing and implementing gender-sensitive business advisory and support services to contribute to the success of both male and female-led climate-smart SMEs within the business incubator.

She said: “At GCIC, we recognize the importance of creating a supportive ecosystem for women in leadership positions to help them overcome the multiplicity of challenges they face in running their businesses as well as their personal lives.

A session such as this supports our Mompreneurs by providing them with tools and skills to improve the wellbeing and positive development of their children and their families. “

One of the two resource persons, Dr Adzika Agbemenya Vincent, a Medical Psychologist at Neptune Medical Centre, Tema, led the session on the psychology of parenthood and skillful parenting where he shared the importance of knowing your child’s personality to promote his/her natural potential for optimal outcomes.

“As a parent, you must be intentional about raising your child. Set aside time to talk and listen to each other. Turn off phones, computers, and televisions when you and your child are communicating and talk about everyday things as you go through your day.

As a parent, you should be open to talking about all kinds of feelings, including anger, joy, frustration, fear and anxiety with your child”, he advised.

The facilitating Special Education and Parenting expert shared in the struggles of working mothers and revealed practical skills that she employed herself while raising her own three children who now occupy prominent positions in society.

“There is a popular saying that goes this way ‘we expect women to work like they don’t have children and expect them to raise children like they don’t work’.

It can be very daunting to think about society’s expectations of working mothers, but no matter what, it is your responsibility as a mother to prioritize your child.

Don’t outsource your child’s well-being to anyone, take full responsibility for it and you will reap the benefits when they become adults”, she encouraged.

clothes closet

Must have Fashion Items for your Mompreneur closet.

Do you recall the days before you had children? Those times when you have enough time to get dressed, put on makeup, and appear respectable. As a stay-at-home mom, it’s challenging to put together a modest wardrobe. You may even believe you lack the time, energy, or financial resources to do it.

One of the most common complaints We hear from stay-at-home mom(s) is that they have no idea how to dress after having children. They’ve lost their sense of style, their mojo, and their sense of self, and they’re at a loss on where to start.

Drop-off and pick-up, laundry, sweeping cereal, and keeping tiny children alive are undoubtedly all part of your daily routine. Time to put together nice ensembles and look put together is hard to come by.

Don’t give up hope. You can rediscover your old self as a new mom or an older mom trapped in a rut. Even if you don’t have the financial means to purchase a new outfit, it is entirely achievable with a little forethought and imagination.

However, just because your life has altered doesn’t mean you can’t still wear those fashionable things you want. With a simple wardrobe, you can be a stay-at-home mom. You can look fabulous while wearing items that make you happy!

Knowing and appreciating your personal style is the first step toward obtaining an elegant but mom-friendly style. More particularly, your personal style at home.

It’s critical to understand and accept your unique preferences; otherwise, you’ll feel out of sync and abandon your efforts to seem put-together. It’s pointless to fight the frump if you’re just feeling foolish!

We believe we all have the same goal in mind: to seem put-together while remaining comfortable for whatever the day may bring. What’s more, you know what? You can prevent looking frumpy if you get these fashion items in your wardrobe.

5 Practical Self-Care Tips for Mompreneurs

Being a mompreneur comes with many responsibilities, from taking care of your kids to ensuring your business is running smoothly. Juggling these can be pretty challenging, and you must prioritize your self-care, so you’re always at your best. Here are some self-care tips worth considering for your mental and physical well-being.

Don’t be afraid to take breaks

Sometimes, you only need to take some time off to reset and come back stronger, even if it’s just for a few minutes. You may feel like things may not go the way you’ll want them to if you step back for a while, but taking breaks is vital for you. Doing this will help you delegate more and allow you to ask for help when you need it. Although you may feel some mom guilt initially, you shouldn’t encourage it but rather remind yourself that you need a break too. It could be a short power nap, a break to have a healthy snack, or even taking your kids over to their grandparents for a day or two, so you can have some alone time.

Know when to say no

As a mompreneur, you’ll often need to be assertive and also set boundaries. You may not always be able to take on everything at once, and knowing when to say no will help reduce the likelihood of you feeling pressured. It’s best to have clear boundaries so you can also have time for yourself. For instance, you can decide not to take orders on weekends, so you can relax and spend quality time with your family. Doing this will also help you avoid overpromising to clients, so you don’t end up having so much to do that you can’t meet your customers’ demands.

Find what works for you

Knowing what helps calm you down when you’re stressed is vital in prioritizing your self-care and will help you relax when you feel overwhelmed. Maybe listening to your favourite music will help soothe you, or a hot shower after a hard day’s work. Whatever it may be, it would help if you knew what calms you down, so you spend more time doing that. Additionally, you should know the things that trigger you negatively so that you can avoid them as much as possible.

Make time for your favourite hobby

If you love to bake, try new recipes, swim, etc., it would help if you consciously set time aside to engage in those activities to help you unwind. This step is a great way to stay connected with yourself and sharpen some of your skills. If you love to write, keeping a journal is also a great way to build your hobby and note down some of your best-loved memories so you can easily refer to them. It will also help you pause after a busy day to gather your thoughts and plan for the next day.

Be intentional about your sleep routine

Getting a good night’s rest is essential for your well-being. As a mompreneur, it may be challenging to find enough time to sleep. However, there are a few ways you can be more intentional about your bedtime routine. For instance, you can reduce your screen time at night so you can get into bed earlier. You can also find ways to make your room cosy enough for you to unwind. Some soft background music can also do the trick. If you love taking caffeine to give you the energy you need to keep going, it’s best to cut down on that as well, especially at night, so it will be easier for you to fall asleep. As a plus, try and have some days to turn off the alarm and sleep in if you can. You can make this easier by asking your spouse, siblings, etc., to fill in for you on those days so that you can sleep longer.

As the famous saying goes, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Therefore, as you focus on taking care of your family and business, remember that taking some time off for yourself is equally important. Practicing the tips listed above will yield lasting results for your well-being and give you the right state of mind to achieve your goals. Don’t forget to celebrate your little wins as well.

Start up dream

Five Tips to help you turn your Startup Dream into reality

If you’re a determined mother entrepreneur with a start up or a company idea that has the potential to grow into a full-fledged enterprise, you could use these tips to turn what often seems like a  dream into a reality:

1. Clarify your time and financial commitments

To turn your start up dream into reality, it’s critical to first figure out what your priorities are. Begin by asking yourself, “How much time and money am I willing to commit in this project?”
Examine your personal finances and compare them to your projected launch costs. Determine where you can cut expenditures if necessary, and be realistic about how much money you can spend on this project. Make a definite decision on how much revenue the company needs to generate and develop a plan to get there. You can read more at Entrepreneur

2. Identify networking potential all around you to help push your Start up dream

Every mother needs a support group in her entrepreneurship and motherhood journey.   You may not have enough time in your schedule to attend a networking event, but you could schedule and link up with other mothers or professionals through virtual seminars and zoom sessions  from the comfort of your own home. Capitalize on the connections that already exists and also reach out to specialists or other mom entrepreneurs who can help you fill in the gaps in areas of company where you are less experienced (think accounting, IT, etc.).

3. Research to see if there’s a niche for your Startup dream

You may have thought of a great idea but you need to find out if really there is a need for that product or service. Before you take a decision on whether or not to go with an idea, do some research to find out if people will be interested in using that product or service and talk  to people in your network to see if it’s something they would want to buy. This can help you narrow down your ideal customer and target market. If your study generates enough potential interest in your business idea to keep it alive, you might find it’s one worth pursuing.

4. Try out small markets before trying to expand

To turn your start up dream into reality you need to start small by building  a small and manageable foundation . This will allow you to fine-tune and improve your craft, monitor your business strategy, and create brand awareness with clients. Once you’re established  in your local market and among your peers in the industry you can better position yourself to progressively expand into a larger market or go glocal.

5. Do not wait for the “perfect time” to launch your Start up dream

The “right” time to start a business will never come if you expect all of your life’s moving components to organize and align themselves precisely.
Juggling motherhood and business can be chaotic and confusing and you may sometimes want to postpone most of your dreams which is fine if you are not able to pursue it there and then. But once you have the opportunity don’t wait to be perfect.
You should learn from our mistakes, and don’t see yourself as a failure. Perfectionism can stifle your ability to grow, extend, and flourish as a business. Allow yourself to be under qualified, and don’t be scared to take the initial step. After all, your concept could lead to a once-in-a-lifetime chance.

Which of these things did you do before you launched your business? Share with us in the comment section.

Five ways to overcome Mommy Guilt as a Mompreneur

Have you ever been caught up in an important meeting and remembered you are an hour late from picking the kids from school? Working as a mother or starting a company are arguably two of the most difficult and fulfilling experiences every woman may experience. All these experiences are usually coupled with “mommy guilts” which will leave you doubting some of the decisions you are going to take.

You might find yourself overwhelmed with work and other activities that will make you think you’re ignoring your duties as a mother. This feeling will linger for a while but the good news is that there are a few ways to cope with and also reduce it. Today we share with you five ways to overcome the “Mommy guilt” in your journey;

1. Involve your children in your business.
One of the effective ways to overcome mommy guilt is to involve your children in the business to help with some of your tasks. Involving them helps to make them feel like a part of what you are doing. The next time they ask if they can help, give them some of your tasks. This way they don’t feel neglected and you also avoid mommy guilts.

2. Understand that you may definitely miss out on moments.
It’s a basic fact of life that as a working mother you may not be available for every minute of her children’s day. It’s fine to be sad about missing out on the fun and sweet moments. Allowing yourself to lament the things you’re giving up by working will make it easier to appreciate the things you’re gaining. It’s pointless to act as if there aren’t any tradeoffs.

3. Stop adhering to the rules of others.
You have a good understanding of what makes a good mother because of the many mothers in your life. You’ve developed a collection of rules that you obey based on these relationships. It’s quick to feel guilty if you don’t follow these made-up rules.Don’t forget that we are all different and the most important thing is showing up for the kids and yourself as and when necessary. Remember that nobody won the award for “Best mother” yet.

4. Create Reminders
As a mother you have to look after yourself, your children, your house, and your work. It’s normal for mommy guilt to crop in once a while as aresult of this busy schedule. You can set up reminders to help you track all the things that are important to you. Is it the meeting in your child’s school? Set a reminder on the phone. Is it the piano class you promised to sign the kids on to, set a reminder. You definitely won’t miss out on your kids life and important milestones with a reminder in track. If you are reminded and you are not able to attend, that’s ok.

5. Be open to new opportunities and go with the flow
There are a lot of mistakes you are going to make and that is ok. The most important thing is to learn from these mistakes and adjust your behaviour as and when necessary . You feel like a winner when you go with the flow rather than battling facts!

It may take some time and practice to overcome mommy guilt and find a routine that works for you. Take a break from the machine, turn off your phone’s alerts/notifications, and savour each moment of the journey.

Working From Home: Dedicated Workspace Tips

A dedicated workspace for your business as a mompreneur is very essential if you want to make the most of your working hours and be more productive. It helps you to focus , puts you into the working mode mentally, makes it easier to achieve some level of balance working from home and reduces distractions.

Check out these helpful tips for creating a dedicated space for work at home:

Identify the perfect location

When choosing a space to work from at home you need to consider a space with good lighting ,allows a little bit of privacy and does not interfere with the activities of others in the home. Usually the bedroom, the little corner in your living room or a spare room at home will work best for your work from home workspace.

Keep your workspace organized

A clean workspace increases productivity and makes it easier finding your way around your tools ,resources for work and can help make you more comfortable at work. Decluttering and keeping an organized workspace can lead to greater productivity.

Create a welcoming environment

Working from home enables you to create a workspace of your choice and one that will help you thrive and be productive. You can incorporate some plants/ greenery, paintings and pictures that can spur your creativity , innovation and brainstorming sessions.

Consider comfortable furniture

Invest in a good chair and a table. This helps to prevent back aches especially if you are sitting for long periods. You can also use pillows to create a more comfortable sitting space if you do not have a comfortable chair.

Working from home can sometimes be difficult because you need to make a conscious effort to separate your home life from your work-life . A dedicated workspace helps to turn the workmode off because you know once you leave the room you are no longer at work. Putting things away at the end of the day also helps you to disconnect from the work mode in order for you to attend to other important things at home.
In all having a workspace as a work from home mompreneur will help you to focus, increase your productivity and take your business serious.
